What’s new for 2013

Here’s another beautiful villa we’ve just added to our portfolio: Ripa

Ripa is an elegant Tuscan villa just outside the medieval village of San Casciano dei Bagni in southern Tuscany.  The villa enjoy amazing views over the UNESCO heritage site of Val d’Orcia.

Private but not isolated this villa welcome its guests in a cosy and warm atmosphere. The garden, Loggia and pool are the perfect places to relax and enjoy the views.

This villa is perfect for those who want to be near a village but still have some privacy and those who love Thermal Spa as all the guests have special discounts on access to the thermal pools and treatments. The village of San Casciano is just 5 minutes away.

A real artisan in Montepulciano

LMA – Laboratorio Mosaici Artistici

There are a lot of shops in Montepulciano but we’ve selected just a few that are not just shopping places but  places where you can see real artists working and realise their products.

The LMA is a small typical “bottega” with a real artisan that realises reproductions by famous painters and characteristic Tuscan landscapes in mosaics.

You can just enter the shop and watch Albo working on his lovely mosaics.

Via di Cagnano 4 – Tel.: 0578 757272. Closed Sunday

Off the beaten path

Bagno Vignoni

A little jewel in the heart of the Val d’Orcia.

Located just 20 minutes drive from Pienza, near the lovely town of San Quirico d’Orcia, on the antique CASSIA road SS1 that connect Siena and Rome.

The name of this ancient village derives from Vignoni, already a famous castle in the 11 C, whose traces dominate the hill over the village. The thermal waters were frequented by the Romans. A porch-type bridge passes over the waters flowing from the bath towards the thermal establishments and subsequently going on to feed a series of mills situated along the steep banks of the river.

Sit under the Porch with a glass of wine and relax

Rolling barrels…

Bravio delle Botti – Montepulciano

On the last Sunday of August Montepulciano becomes the place where barrels roll up to the narrow streets until they reach the Piazza Grande.

It is just a game, of course, a challenge between the eight Contradas (divisions) of Montepulciano who compete for a painted cloth banner by rolling barrels of 80 kilos in an uphill race lasting around 1800 metres along the main street of the town.

The barrels are rolled by two athletes called “spingitori” whilst the course of the race winds through the streets of the towns historical centre until it reaches the churchyard of the Duomo in Piazza Grande.

The whole week prior to the main event is filled with important appointments and events: official trials of the “spingitori” for each of the Contrada; each evening the Contrade will open ready to welcome you with celebrations, dinners, games, music and… wine.

A special thanks to Nico Palazzi for sharing the beautiful images of the Bravio.
